Les diamants roses - Lauredi

Pink Diamonds

The pink diamond derives its exceptional color from a plastic deformation of its crystalline structure during its formation. This color ranging from delicate to intense pink, once reserved for legends like the Pink Star diamond, is now accessible thanks to our synthesized diamonds.

Why is the diamond pink?

Wondering why diamonds are pink? It's explained by a deformation of the crystalline structure that occurred during the diamond's formation, creating flaws that filter light in a unique way.

Each pink diamond is a unique stone, as its color depends on the intensity and type of deformation it has undergone, which is never the same from one stone to another.

The synthetic pink diamond

Synthetic diamonds, also known as lab-grown diamonds, are man-made diamonds created by replicating the extreme temperature and pressure conditions that allow natural diamonds to form in the earth.

For colored diamonds, such as pink mine diamonds, the hue is obtained through specific post-growth treatments or by the controlled introduction of stresses during the laboratory formation process.

Introducing

The pink diamond: a statistical rarity

Less than 0.01% of diamonds mined worldwide exhibit this natural color. In practical terms, this translates to fewer than one pink diamond per 10,000 diamonds extracted from mines.

The Argyle mine in Australia was historically the main source of pink diamonds, producing over 90% of the world's pink diamonds until its closure in 2020. This closure marked the end of an era: the event was remarkable enough to instantly send prices soaring on international markets.

Pink diamonds exceeding one carat have been an absolute rarity since the closure of Argyle, which justifies the record pink diamond prices observed on the benchmark markets.

Introducing

The famous pink diamonds

History includes several exceptional pink diamonds that have graced royal and private collections.

The Pink Star diamond remains the absolute benchmark in this category.
This 59.60-carat pink diamond boasts an intense, vivid pink color that is highly sought after. Its recent but spectacular history testifies to the contemporary fascination with these exceptional diamonds: discovered in Africa in 1999, it was cut over two years to reveal its optimal beauty before becoming, in 2017, the most expensive diamond ever sold at auction for $71.2 million. This historic record propelled pink diamonds to the top of the collectible gem market.

The Pink Star diamond now belongs to a private collector.
Other specimens have also gained international recognition, notably the 24.78-carat Graff Pink, remarkable for its exceptional purity, and the Darya-ye Noor, a historic Iranian gem whose legend rivals that of the Pink Star.
