What sets the price of a coloured diamond
Before the numbers, the mechanics. Six factors drive the price, and they do not carry the same weight.
Origin. Natural or lab-grown. By far the first factor, with gaps counted in multiples.
Hue. On the natural market, red and blue are the rarest, yellow the most common. In the lab, that hierarchy flattens out.
Intensity. The criterion that matters most on a coloured stone. The same blue can be graded Faint, Light, Fancy, Fancy Intense or Fancy Vivid. Saturation moves the price far more than clarity does.
Carat. The price is never linear. One 1 carat stone costs clearly more than two 0.5 carat stones.
Cut. Not the weight, the shape. An Asscher or a pear does not consume the same rough as a round brilliant. Some cuts lift the colour, others dilute it.
The metal of the setting. Underrated everywhere, and often the biggest single line in the gap between two identical rings.

Natural or lab-grown: the real price gap
Let us set the order of magnitude. A natural coloured diamond is a collector's object. As an indication only, and taking the ranges published by diamants-infos.com, a 1 carat natural pink trades between 115 569€ and 401 070€. A blue, between 128 176€ and 623 886€. A green, between 40 305€ and 445 633€. A yellow, far more common, between 3 119€ and 10 695€.
Those figures are not ours. They are quoted as they stand from a competitor source consulted in August 2026, given purely as an indication, and they swing enormously with intensity. We cite them to show that the natural coloured diamond does not belong to the same market as the piece of jewellery you are looking for.
On the lab-grown side, the published charts only cover white. Laveran-paris.com quotes, again as an indication, 1 200€ to 2 400€ for a colourless carat of standard quality. Those are loose stone prices, not ring prices. For coloured lab-grown diamonds, the search results are empty. That is the hole we are filling.

Three counter intuitive lessons sit inside that grid.
In 925 silver, colour costs nothing extra. The Andrea Ring starts at 990€ whether the stone is white, blue, green or pink. The Christine starts at 1190€ in every case.
The colour premium shows up in recycled 18 carat gold: 210€ on the Andrea Ring, 800€ on the Christine, 1000€ on the pear Loop Solitaire. It depends on the size of the stone, not on the price of the model.
And on the Asscher cut Faubourg 1925 Ring, colour costs nothing at all, even in gold: 990€ to 3600€ across the five shades.
Same stone, two prices: what the metal does
This is the most misread gap in the whole of fine jewellery. Take the clearest example in our catalogue.
The Andrea blue diamond ring costs 990€ in 925 silver. The same ring costs 2200€ in recycled 18 carat gold. It is exactly the same stone: same 0.5 carat blue lab-grown diamond, same IGI certification, same design, same setting.
So where does the 1210€ gap come from? From the metal price: 18 carat gold holds 75 % fine gold and tracks the world market, while 925 silver trades on another scale entirely. From the mass: a band and a setting basket add up to several grams. And from the labour.
What that means for you. If the stone is your priority, take 925 silver and put the budget into a better diamond. If permanence is your priority, take recycled 18 carat gold and accept a smaller stone. What makes no sense is believing that a 2200€ ring holds a better stone than the same ring at 990€.
Blue, green, pink, yellow: what each colour costs here
On the natural market, the hierarchy of colours is brutal. Here, it is almost flat.

How the setting changes the way you read the colour
Nobody talks about this, and yet it decides a lot when you are paying for a colour. A coloured diamond is transparent: it gives back part of what surrounds it. The metal acts as a filter on the shade you perceive.
On 925 silver and recycled 18 carat white gold. The metal is cool and neutral. A blue looks crisper, a green looks truer. The best choice for reading a colour exactly as it is.
On recycled 18 carat yellow gold. The metal warms the stone. A yellow intensifies and melts into the setting. A pink softens. A green drifts towards olive.
On vermeil. The same visual effect as yellow gold, for a far smaller budget. The limit is well known: the gold layer wears down over the years, above all at the friction points.
The practical consequence. If you are paying for an intense colour, put it on a cool metal. If you want a soft, integrated colour, recycled 18 carat yellow gold does the job.
Value over time, said honestly
The question always comes up, and the market answers swing between lying and awkward silence. A lab-grown diamond is not an investment. It has no structured resale market, and its production cost has fallen. Buying a ring hoping to resell it at a profit is a mistake, whatever the colour.
Two things do hold value, though. The metal: recycled 18 carat gold has an intrinsic value tied to the world price, it can be melted and reworked. And the stone as an object: a lab-grown diamond does not scratch and does not fade. In thirty years it will be the same.
